Uni Apps all over again

It’s that time of the year again, amazing how quickly a year passes huh? I’ve finally gotten round to reapplying to the UK, this time to read Law instead of Physics. I went ahead and dropped a sum for these two books, although I really doubt if they’ll be of much help. (As a side-note, having your own credit card does make online shopping so much less of a hassle)

Oh well, if my latest endeavour does really fall flat on it’s face, at least I have NUS Law to fall back on. Then again, it would be a very expensive experiment indeed, given that all the app fees are typically denominated in Pounds Sterling.

I need to get round to deciding precisely what course to apply for and where. My choices currently read:

  • King’s College London: Law with German Law
  • London School of Economics and Political Science: Law
  • Oxford University: Law with German Law
  • University College London: English and German Law

And I’m all out of ideas, I still have one more available choice and frankly I need a good insurance option given that I’m not exactly aiming low here.

Time to get down and dirty prepping myself for the challenge ahead.

P.S. If anyone is interested, the UCAS buzzword for RI(JC) is “rafflesjc2011″.

Channeling the hurt

At first glance some might allege that my grades don’t look half bad. But once the obviously cheap A for German is discounted and the one for my strongest subject is also disregarded, the rest of the grades are downright horrible. I don’t think I’ve ever scored in the bottom quarter of the class for anything before yet I managed to do so for Math and my Chemistry grade is frankly even more uninspiring. Given the effort I put in after my lacklustre performance in these two subjects for CT2, I was hoping for a bigger improvement (if any).

I don’t think there’s anyone else in class who has fallen so spectacularly from what were (at the risk of fraying some nerves) rather stratospheric heights. I’ve only managed to maintain my performances in German and Physics (what else) and my Math and Chemistry grade curves resemble the path of a horizontally fired slug flying off a cliff face that suddenly comes up against a gale force hurricane.

If you’re thinking to yourself how “insensitive” I’m being for disregarding the feelings of those who fared far worse than me, please take your complaints elsewhere. I am genuinely disappointed this time, no make that resoundingly pissed with myself, and if you were to disregard the letter grades and consider the bell curve, you would understand from where I might be sourcing this angst.

Yet, the past remains unyielding and thus immaterial. That is all I can and will do to steel myself for the true task ahead. I will not waver. I will not falter. I will not stop till the obligatory foam is emanating from every orifice. (forgive the graphic descriptives, obligatory mugging statement)

P.S. If there is anyone who is really good at listening/comforting, please do extend a ear/shoulder, I could really use one/both. (oh dear I do sound desperate)

Oh I hate all you Lucked Out Assholes (LOAs)

As news trickles in on the eve of the dreaded Common Tests that almost every class has it’s own assortment of LOAs, I’m beginning to wonder why they are even opening school at all?

My class is up to 4 and counting, I know classes with anywhere from 5 to 9 people skiping out on this round of tests.

Why on earth are they not doing more to combat community spread? Close the schools damn it! Take a leaf out of HCI (High School) or Presbyterian High!

I am a terrible mugger

I have tried repeatedly to get stuff done, but it just does not happen for me. I’m not sure if it’s the environment or just myself. i’ve been looking for a reason to get out of the house and study in a more productive manner but mugging out alone strikes me as really, really stupid. So if there is anyone who is similarly bummed out at home, please get in touch!

My study area, hardly a great spot with the computer and all.
